N73 firmware version 4.0735.3.0.2 won't pair over Bluetooth on OSX

I've updated my N73's firmware to 4.0735.3.0.2 and it will no longer pair over Bluetooth with my MacBook Pro or iBook. Nor can I send files to and from the phone. It simply drops the connection.

I'm running Leopard, but it was working fine with that on a version 3 firmware.

I've seen this issue reported in other threads on this forum.

Are Nokia aware of this issue? When will an updated firmware be released?

Re: N73 firmware version 4.0735.3.0.2 won't pair over Bluetooth on OSX

Hi Guys,

What firmware did you use before 4.0735.3.0.2?

I have this problem for over 2 months, I'am using 4.0736.3.2.1 and the guy from Nokia told me get the update 4.0735.3.0.2 and everything would be fixed!
So you guys could sync your N73 with iSync 3.0 from Leopard

greetings

I was on 3.0704.1.0.1 before, which worked perfectly fine with both Leopard and Tiger.

That is the issue, my wife has the same firmware and all works fine by her.

Is it possible to downgrade?

Unfortunately, I don't think so.

There's a thread on the Apple forums about this:

Can anyone confirm whether the same issue happens with Tiger? I upgraded my firmware after upgrading to Leopard, so I can't check.

I'm still hoping someone at Nokia might pay attention to this...

I've had the same issue with my N73 ME since upgrading to 10.5.

Any update on this issue?

Nokia, kuuluuko?

Same issue here also. I've been waiting for a new firmware to fix this very annoying bug, but maybe I should just throw the phone into the nearest lake... My phones firmware version is the latest, 4.0736.3.2.1 and OS X is Leopard 10.5.1.

Same problem here. It would be nice to know if someone is working in order to resolve this problem.

Re: N73 firmware version 4.0735.3.0.2 won't pair over Bluetooth on OSX

I just had a phone conversation with a Nokia N-series technician. He wasn't aware of the issue and neither was his collegue.

I told him about these threads at Nokia and Apple discussion forums and asked him to look at them.

He just told me that Nokia's Mac support is limited to releasing iSync plug-ins. I told him they're not much of help when you can't even pairt the phone.

He couldn't tell me anything about future firmware updates neither, just asked me to contact Apple regarding the issue...

Re: N73 firmware version 4.0735.3.0.2 won't pair over Bluetooth on OSX

I also called Apple support about this issue. After a long wait and many redirects I was told that Apple has received also other complains regarding this issue, and that Apple is officially aware that this issue with N73 and Leopard exists.

What they couldn't tell was who's to blame for this issue - Apple or Nokia.

If anybody can confirm a working N73 firmware version with Leopard, it would be helpful. At least the newest (4.0736.3.2.1) doesn't work, and downgrading firmware is not possible.

I hope Apple and Nokia software engineers know the cause for this issue and party that is causing it, is working to solve it.

Preinstalled firmware (3.something) worked correctly for me. I don't know the exact release, but I can read, in this topic, 3.0704.1.0.1 .

Thanks for that ctrl.

3.0704.1.0.1 definitely worked fine with Leopard. If I'd known it was going to bring this much grief I'd have just stayed on it!

Re: N73 firmware version 4.0735.3.0.2 won't pair over Bluetooth on OSX

Damn! I just ordered an N73, and I'm already running Leopard, so I guess if it arrives with the latest firmware, I'll have to send it back (I only have a two-week timeframe where I can send it back and exchange it for another handset no-questions-asked. If Nokia can't get things working within that window, then I think I'll be forced to send it back and change it for a phone that works with Bluetooth.)

This is a real shame; I'd just made the decision to switch from Motorola, and the very first thing I find out is that my shiny new phone probably won't work properly...

Yeah, but I didn't buy a nice shiny new phone just to lose functionality that works perfectly with my three-year old Motorola. I'd rather stick with something that works all-round than pay extra money and get something that doesn't.

The N73 looked like pretty much the ideal phone for me, but there are contenders out there that _do_ work fine with Leopard and Bluetooth, as far as I can tell, and if I can get things working just by buying one of those versus doing bizarre firmware upgrade things (which I'm guessing might be difficult if I've only got access to a Mac?) then that's the way I'll go. I like a simple life :smileyhappy:
