I purchased the Twist about 2 weeks ago and cannot find an answer online. I "know" how to "assign" a nokia ringtone that came with the phone.
My problem is that I don't know how to access the music I've put on my memory card to use as a ringtone. When I go through the steps and come upon the step that shows what's on the memory card it says the gallery is empty. I've removed the memory card and checked on my computer to make sure they are there indeed the card.
There is no way (that I see yet) to simply access the memory card from the phone on it's own, without going through some other process.
All I want in life from a cell phone is to talk, text, and use my own ringtones. I don't to have to purchase them when I already own the songs I want.
Any help would be so greatly appreciated. The guide it came with isn't helpful, and neither is the manual for the phone on this sit.
THANKS!

Okay, so just solved this one today. I'm really happy about it. ![]()
So, I'm going to assume that you have formated your card in your phone, this way there are little folders in it so that there is a place for "my music" and "my sounds." While the card is in the computer, make sure the songs are in "my sounds." They can also be in the music folder, but they need to be in "my sounds" at least. I believe they go to both if you send them to your phone via bluetooth.
Then you go to the "Media Center" and click "Music & Tones." Then you click on "My Sounds." You select the sound and then hit "set as" which is the left soft key. The first option makes it your all over phone ring. The second lets you make it a ringer ID.
Before I did this I used Audacity and LAME to make the MP3 shorter and optimized for a phone. The Audacity Wiki goes through this. This works for both Mac and PC platforms.
Let me know if you have questions.

HRM2B,
After much frustration, and trying different things, I've managed to get the songs onto the memory card and have the phone recognize it.
However, the memory card only shows 2 folders MUSIC and PLAYLISTS after formatting the card in the phone. I can access the music and play it, but don't know how to set it as a ringtone (because of the lack of folders where they should be).
I posted on another thread, about the lack of support and software for the Twist 7705, in hopes someone out there is having trouble like I am in just being able to establish a connection from the phone to the computer. I am working with a generic micro usb cable which has no supported drivers. I've downloaded PCSuite and that just gives errors because it doesn't have the drivers and such for this phone.
I have about a week left before my 30 days are up to take it back, but even then, I have to pay a restocking fee. I had no clue this phone was so new or I wouldn't have gotten it.
Any more advice to offer??
Thanks

Oh yeah, also the SD card reader plugs into a USB. And I'm guessing your microSD came with an adapter, otherwise you can buy them as well.
Also, I think Verizon is the only carrier that has this phone, but I could be wrong. you have Verizon, correct?

I don't think my computer is Bluetooth enabled even tho I bought it this year. So that idea is out.
I borrowed a card reader to put things on the card, but once I put them on, they are not showing once the card is back in the phone.
I tried buying a "Nokia" cable for the phone (to connect the phone to the computer), it's doesn't exist. Which is why I tried a generic micro usb cable I found for 10 bucks, but the computer needs drivers in order to recognize the phone, which again, the drivers don't exist. So dragging directly to the phone isn't possible.
I went to the Verizon store this weekend. I told them all this, and the girl, who admitted she wasn't good at tech stuff, said Verizon phones aren't made to be able to put your own music on your card and use as ringtones. I was like ok, even if that were true, the phone specs state you can at least put music on the card and listen to it through the music player... which one cannot do without great difficulty because of drivers and PCSuite and such. She went and asked someone else, and basically told me unless/until someone out there decides to create drivers, I just have to wait for them to be made by Nokia or Verizon. Or, buy a PDA type phone and maybe I could do what I want on that. I left the store very frustrated.
I'm seeing the MUSIC and PLAYLIST folders when I use the card reader and open the card.
I've had a Samsung Beat, and a Blackberry 8120 before getting this Twist, and could always use my own files as ringtones after putting them on the memory card. They were through TMobile. But I had to leave TMobile because of the lack of signal and service. With Verizon, I have yet to have a call dropped, or lack of signal at home (which is important because it's my only phone) Anyway, I constantly 'play' around with the phone trying to find ways to set a file as a ringtone and still no luck.

Mmkay so this is what i did with my nokia twist. It works and stuff.
First i bought a verizon micro universal usb to put in music. you need the driver and you can download it at: http://www.vzam.net/
go to consumer downloads and do the step to step thing that lets you download the nokia driver.
afterwards i downloaded v cast with rhapsody.
once those were done i hooked up my phone to my computer, opened up the vcast program and put in music. Synced my phone. Thats all you need to do to just put in music in your phone.
If you then look at the memory card you see only two folders. To change that i did something kind of random. I took a random picture with my phone. Then i moved the picture to the memory card. If you check up on the memory card on your computer afterwards you will see that there are now more than just two folders. I dont really remember but i think the names are like my_music, my_sounds, my_pix and etc.
Alrighty and now the easy part. You just drag and drop whatever music you want as your ringtones into the my_sounds folder. BUT you have to make sure the files are mp3. Once thats done your all set!
Put the memory card back in your phone, go to media center, then Music and tones. go to my sounds and there you see all of the music you put into the card. Go to set as and you can set as a ringtone, specific caller id ringtone, or an alert tone. Im pretty sure the length of the music doesnt matter.
SO yeah, thats it. Im not sure if you have to buy the usb and do the whole v cast with rhapsody thing. To make sure just try the steps after that. Sorry this reply is all over the place.

Koreaneeyore,
If I knew you in person, you'd be getting the best hug you've ever gotten in your life. Thank you for taking the time to answer this post with your solution. I appreciate the help that others gave too, because they too tried to help. But yours did the trick and I am so grateful.
I didn't have to download VCast, I went from the step after that. I moved a picture already in the phone to the card. Then removed the card and put it in a USB card reader to view the card on my computer and sure enough the folders were there. I put MP3's in the my sounds folder then put the card back in the phone and bam they were there and showed the option to set as a ringtone.
A know someone who works at Verizon, ironically in the customer service call center. I am going to tell her this information. I'd just dicussed this with her 2 days ago. When I went to the store, I simply didn't believe the clerk who told me it just couldn't be done. I knew there was a way, and I would have to depend on others to find out. So Thank you. I'm going to link to this so others can see.

TheLizDog,
Haha. No problem no problem
Im glad it worked for you. I had the same problem and when i went to a verizon store one of the clerks said it wasnt possible. He just made me buy the usb driver (which was a waste of $20).
I just figured that if you tried putting a picture straight from your computer to your memory card it wouldnt show, so that meant there should be a folder to put it in.So i just tried to see what would happen if i moved a picture from the phone to my memory card and everything worked out from there.
Since theres not much support for the Nokia Twist you should definitely tell your friend. When i had called customer support they didnt know how to do it either (but they were very nice).
Im happy to know that i was of some help ![]()

Not to put anyone down on this but there is a way simpler way for those that don't want to splurge on a universal usb cable. As long as the person has a micro SD card and some type of adapter that will plug into the computer thats all that is needed. Just go to:
Menu->Media Center->Music&Tones->My Sounds->Record New
This will open a My_sounds folder a lottt easier than downloading vcast and all the other senseless items.
Next just drag and drop MP3 files into it, check my sounds and it should pop up. Hit the left key in the corner and set as:
1. Ringtone
2. ContactID
3. Alert Sounds
Much simpler IMO.

MMK. So I am having similar problems. I tried moving everything (music, sounds, pictures, and contacts) to my memory card. When I connect the USB cable to the phone and select Media sync mode, all I see is a Music folder and a Playlist folder, no Pix or Sounds folders.

the sound quality is terrible this way
