Re: N97 fw update 2.1

Yup one of them came to let us know the good news ... and providing few infos about the changes... and right away people complaining without even knowing the whole changelog....

I understand now why they never reply... arguing with those kind of customers can be frustrating

Re: N97 fw update 2.1

You can try. In Nokia Repair Centre tell that you can not use the latest (and free of course) Ovi Maps and they should update your phone with clear, unbranded firmware.

Re: N97 fw update 2.1

Also it comes down to what started the angry customers. Take the N97 for example, Nokia didn't put alot of thinking in to it or they set out with one goal *to be environmentally friendly* and they people start complaining, but Nokia did try and fix the issue though taking them a while to do so.

So it's no one's fault

Re: N97 fw update 2.1

Funny when you consider that their slogan is connecting people :smileyhappy:

But it's nice to see they worked on an update for the N97 anyway. I mean, Nokia is the largest of all because they make a lot of models. But why release 3 models that operate in the same market niche in such short time? N97, N97 mini, N900. And in the meantime also have almost for each model a different OS. Must be a hell for the programmers to work on. And it's a hell for people developing 3rd party apps.

I won't ask what specifically was fixed/added since I doubt we will get any more detailed info before feb 1st. So wait and see. Adding free navigation is a nice touch though.

Re: N97 fw update 2.1

AHA yea but they do connect people in someways...but im stating the obvious.

they did mention they are going to design less smartphones so they can work on lesser products=higher quality and content.

which I should point out is a good move. Nokia is ranked the mobile giant and now that they are in that position, they can focus on a different view now. :smileywink:

Re: N97 fw update 2.1

Nokia are a GIANT in Europe and Asia but I have mentioned Nokia to a few people in the USA and they never even heard of them so Nokia have a way to go.

NOKIA

  1. Please  make a method for your customers to send CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK about issues and recommend improvements (without having to do it publically on forums)
  2. Please value your customers and keep them informed.

I wrote a whole constructive document about my issues and recommendations for the N97 yet I searched and searched and found no means to sent it to Nokia.  until you do this you will keep getting pages and pages of negative comments about Nokia this can't be good for business. Its not personal people just want their expensive phones fixed, or to at least be kept informed.  As soon as I saw the notice today from Nokia I felt better  and had some hope.

I would be more than happy to work for Nokia introducing a customer feedback system and a method to keep the customers well informed.

"Most of us like Nokia" many of us had really GOOD experience with Nokia in the past and it bothers us to see you "shooting yourself in the foot"   You clearly have big ideas and the expertise but you need to focus on customer satisfaction.

Re: N97 fw update 2.1

ya scoony.... you're right

the customers should be cool & quiet as you are.

They should take the few COMPANY announcements as the slaves earing MOSES from the hill reading the 10 rules:

rule number one

I'M YOUR ONLY GOD

so shut up ans stop complaining ;-)

great advice.

Re: N97 fw update 2.1

@Touch_wood

O2 never released the N97 due to it not reaching the spec standereds so in ur case i would check to see who released ur phone i.e  vodaphone, orange ect ect but if u have a unbranded version then i would consider in finding other ways to get the firmwar.e from what i believe care centres will only update ur firmware if u take responsablity if anything goes wrong

hope this help

Re: N97 fw update 2.1

Hi no1shaw,

I bought the phone from O2 Ireland. Did they not release the N97 at all for O2 UK? This would make sense as it would explain why the branded update is taking so long.

Re: N97 fw update 2.1

"Bug fixes" is a very broad statement, but that's the biggest problem with my phone. I'm hoping this applies to the RAM management, by far my biggest problem. The browser is second, although that could be related to the RAM situation as well. We wait until Monday. I'm guessing there will be a lot of hours spent on this at Nokia over the weekend. Motorola seems to have given up on WinMo and will be releasing MANY impressive Android phones in 2010. This update will make or break Nokia for me.

Re: N97 fw update 2.1

I have complained (almost) as much as most of you, but my phone actually does 90% of what it's supposed to do. The stability is what's killing it. I say this kind of in Nokia's defense. The people that have "unique" problems probably have defective phones, or suffer from "operator error". This has probably diluted the seriousness of these discussions. I (and others) leave comments about specific "bugs" only top be followed by someone who has a unit that "killed their cat" or "caused a rash", etc.. I don't care to be heard, or be "informed". I just want my $600 phone to work as it should, for (at least) days at a time.
